Project Description
Kolwezi, Democratic Republic of Cobgo
One of our biggest clients operates a open-pit copper mine in the Katanga Province, 40 kilometres (25 mi)to the southeast of Kolwezi in the Roan formation, the Impala Platinum mine produces approximately one million ounces of platinum each year.
Annual production capacity is estimated at 20,000 tonnes of copper metal and 8,000 tonnes of cobalt in cobalt hydroxide, with expansion to 110,000 tonnes of copper metal and 23,000 tonnes of cobalt in cobalt hydroxide in the first quarter of 2012. Facilities include a dense media separation concentrator and a hydro-metallurgical plant for crushing, screening, milling, pre-leaching, leaching, clarification and SX/EW. In November 2011 our client had confirmed that it should compete its expansion in December 2011, bring up annual capacity to 110,000 metric tons of copper metal as planned. Our client made an investment of $650 million to develop this capacity
Our client operates over an area of 260+ square kilometres. Its two open shaft pits have a total of 600 mining engineers blasting and excavating copper and cobalt. The client had purchased a MOTOTRBO system that needed to be configured and commissioned according to specific specifications. They were hesitant on expanding on their radio capacity due to the faults found in the radio system IP network, incorrect fleetmapping of the user network and no staff member skilled to handle basic fault finding. The TRBONET system was also found to been in a broken state.
M H Technologies had successfully mapped the entire network, from radio user fleetmapping to configuring and optimizing the IP network. With voice recording and GPS tracking working, our client has the required functionality from their system. Positive impact on operations could be seen from day one and with GPS tracking worker safety is guaranteed.
